The Global Citizen Program (GCP) at SPC is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a competent global citizen who is ready to live and work in a diverse world. The GCP entails curricular, extracurricular, and capstone components that students complete alongside their degree program.

We congratulate Mary Walsh and Marsha Nelson, the first SPC students who have successfully completed all requirements for the inaugural Global Citizen Program. Read more.

Get started now:

1. Attend an information session

2. Complete the online application


1. Curricular – 12 total credit hours (passed with “C” or better)

2. Extracurricular – At least one activity below

  • Study Abroad (complete the required Study Abroad Reflection Form)
  • 20 hours total of any of the following activities (combination acceptable – complete this required reflection for each activity):
    • English Conversation Partners –  a group of SPC students who volunteer to help non-native English speakers improve their conversation skills.
    • First Year Peer Mentoring – a group of current SPC students who are matched with new international students to mentor during their first year on-campus. Peers off er advice on various topics including student success, student activities, and civic engagement.
    • International Student Speakers Bureau (ISSB) – a group of international and study abroad students from SPC who volunteer to speak in classrooms on-campus as well as in the Pinellas County Schools.
    • Model United Nations Initiative – a program that places strong emphasis on research and experiential learning. Students gain critical thinking skills and knowledge about international organizations, processes for conflict resolution, as well as blocks of states that exist within the U.N. and how they diplomatically engage one another.
    • SPC Student Ambassador – a program that helps hopeful U.S. Citizens prepare for the Citizenship test. Student Ambassadors are required to attend 4 workshops during fall semester.
    • Off-campus or On-campus events with global theme

4. Career Integration

Upon successful completion of the Global Citizen Program, students are recognized as a Global Citizen and will be awarded:

  • A Certificate of Completion from the SPC Center for International Programs (CIP)
  • Global Citizen Commencement Medallion and SPC portfolio bag
  • Global Citizen stamp on diploma
  • A digital presence and resume that is ready for the competitive global economy
