Thirteen students from SPC’s College of Education, along with Dr. Emily Hoeh, recently volunteered at the Buddy Walk promoting civic responsibility. The event promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
“We need minority teachers,” said Dr. Susan Blanchard with SPC’s College of Education. Minority students need to see teachers who look like them because, according to a recent study, it reduces their chances of dropping out and increases the number who plan to attend college. The Scholarship for Minority Teacher Education (MTES) is now open for Spring 2018 applications and will close Nov. 1, 2018. See if you qualify.
Nine SPC College of Education students and Dr. Melissa McAllister will be traveling to Jamaica in November to teach in the local schools. They have been gathering school supplies that will help support their teaching as well as the students in Jamaica who they’ll be working with.

A minority teachers scholarship, funded by the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, begins taking applications June 15. If you qualify, you could get up to $4,000 per year towards your teaching education.
