Are you LinkedIn?

Linkedin art

The St. Petersburg College, Tarpon Springs campus, held a LinkedIn workshop for students on October 7th.  LinkedIn is a social media tool used for professional networking.

Students were shown how to create their own profile page and were provided with useful tips.  Students were advised to keep their profile content strictly related to their profession, as it is a completely different type of social media than Facebook. LinkedIn can offer a way to boost a professional’s network and the power of using it is in the actual networking.

For some tips on using Linked in, click here.

By joining the millions of people on LinkedIn, you can create a network of people who are like minded from the same industry you work in, and also create a network of people from a current job. If a job search or change was anticipated then it could assist in providing a path towards a new career.

When creating a profile, one of the most important items to begin with would be an appropriate photo.   A profile photo should be of a professional nature. A selfie should never be used, nor should a photo taken in a casual setting.  At the end of the workshop, students had the opportunity to have a professional photo taken by a St. Petersburg College Photography student intern.  These photos will be sent to the students via email to add to their newly created LinkedIn profile pages.

Join us for the next session, “Are You LinkedIn”, on Thursday November 19th from 11:00 am to noon, in the Career and Transfer Hub, NU 460, at the Tarpon Springs Campus.  All students are welcome, and if you have not visited this newly created room, please stop by and check out what the Career Services Team has to offer. If you have not yet created a resume, or need to improve your current one, we will be happy to help!
