Last year members of the American Legion Post began placing American flags on all veterans’ graves at Fogartyville Cemetery, the Bradenton Herald reported. They also decided to adopt Adams and Rogers Cemetery. There are several graves of veterans in the historically black cemetery.

Work by the American Legion Riders included cutting back overgrowth and caring for tombstones that needed maintenance.

Last year, members placed a total of 198 flags. This year they placed 465, the newspaper reported. Seventy gravesites were reclaimed and 52 veterans graves uncovered through their work.
