Devin Harris-Minnick worked in the culinary industry for more than a decade before he realized that he would need to head back to the classroom if he wanted to achieve his dream of becoming a Food & Beverage Director. He had previously completed the Culinary program at Pinellas Technical College but decided to look for a program with a more substantial business background to it this time around.

That’s how he came to be a student in St. Petersburg College’s Hospitality & Tourism Management program. With tourism being one of the biggest industries in Florida, especially in Pinellas County, SPC’s program helps students master the management skills needed in an industry that employees 1.2 million people and brings in more than $100 billion a year to the Sunshine State, according to the state’s tourism agency, Visit Florida.

SPC’s Hospitality & Tourism Management degree and certificates give students the knowledge and business insight to take their career to the next level in management, ideal for Devin and his goal to fine-tune his business acumen.

The program ended up being a great fit, and Devin was even chosen in the fall of 2019 to participate in the Tampa Bay Hospitality Alliance FAM Educational Experience where students from different universities and colleges across Florida tour and speak with industry professionals at hotels, restaurants, and conference centers across Hillsborough and Pinellas County. He proudly graduated from SPC with his AS Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management this past fall.

Devin was highlighted for this student profile as part of Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month at St. Petersburg College.
