Alpha Phi Sigma comes to the SPC Allstate Campus!
This past Thursday, September 15th, the SPC Allstate Campus hosted an informational session with hopes of creating their very own chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma. What is Alpha Phi Sigma you ask? Well it’s a National Criminal Justice Honor Society that was founded at Washington State University in 1942, and originally served as a Police Service Honorary organization. Today, it currently has over 360 active chapters world-wide and here at SPC we are now hoping to be a part of that legacy!
” The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma are to honor and promote academic excellence, community service, educational leadership, and unity.”
As stated in their mission statement, the purpose of this honorary society is to “promote excellence in scholarship and performance in the field of criminal justice.” Therefore, we are looking for students with a genuine interest in promoting educational leadership and unity. Since we are still in the research phase, the session was primarily a general overview for students and an opportunity for staff to gain insight into how many of our students are interested and eligible to begin the charter chapter. In order to submit an application to national headquarters, we must have ten students who meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled in an SPC Criminal Justice bachelor’s degree (or related field)
- Have completed 4 upper division courses within their above degree program
- 2 Cumulative GPA and 3.2 Criminal Justice GPA
After a very successful info session that allowed students to attend in person and online, the SPC Allstate Campus is now working with prospective students to evaluate their eligibility requirements. Although eligibility requires students to be at the bachelors level, those students who are currently enrolled in an SPC associate degree in the field of criminal justice should not feel discouraged! This is a great opportunity for students to prepare NOW to ensure eligibility is met quickly once enrolled in their bachelor’s degree program.
With that being said we’re very excited about joining forces with each student to make our chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma successful. We look forward to its future and hope to become bigger and better each year.
