Training Center Earns Fourth Perfect Audit

St. Petersburg College‘s Public Safety Training Center was recently honored by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission for receiving a perfect audit – the fourth consecutive one for the Center.

This annual process involves a complete review of certification and training files for both the academy classes as well as the 200 plus advanced and specialized training courses. But for me, this award goes beyond just having files and processes in order. Years ago, we completely reorganized the training center and how we operate. Our team reviewed and revised how we communicate with agencies and market our courses, and we literally broke down the cost of everything we do. But we didn’t stop there – we immediately began constant improvement on what happens in our training areas and classrooms. The academies focus more on scenarios, public speaking and working with the public. The advanced and specialized group developed a firearm and decision-making simulation room and an entire simulation building to address the need for active assailant training.

These efforts have created partnerships and training opportunities, not just for our 13 local law enforcement agencies, but also for numerous regional, state and federal officers.

I want to recognize the following people for helping us earn this achievement:

Program Director Mike DiBuono
Staff Assistants Mary Weingart and Kim Gaskins,
Coordinators Lauren Bley, Paul Roach and Joe Sapponare
Range Master Don Kiefhaber
Grant Regional Coordinator Gail Walker
