Dark Web Investigations: Explore Beneath The Surface

If you are a web enthusiast with an investigative side and are considering a career in Cybersecurity, you don’t want to miss St. Petersburg College’s featured presentation, “Dark Web Investigations.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with our guest speaker, Instructor Karhrman Ziegenbein, who is co-founder of the Academy of Technology and Investigations. He will give insight into what the dark web entails and how investigations are conducted.

According to Professor Kevin Thomas of St. Petersburg College, The dark web is not indexed by search engines like Google, making sites there much harder to find for the average web user.

“Accessing the dark web requires the use of special computers operated by thousands of volunteers around the globe, rendering the user’s IP address unidentifiable and untraceable,” Thomas said.

Although not everything on the dark web is illegal, many of the sites offer prohibited services or products, like stolen credit card numbers, drugs, illegal guns, counterfeit money, stolen subscription credentials, hacked Netflix accounts, and software that helps hackers break into other people’s computers. Using Bitcoin currency, hackers can also buy usernames, passwords and even hire criminals to attack almost any computer on the internet.

The event is one night only and will be held on Wednesday November 14, 2018 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the EpiTech Building, room 2-304 (on the second floor), located at 13805 58th St N Clearwater, FL 33760. Please RSVP if you would like to attend. This event is hosted by the College of Public Safety Administration, College of Computer & Information Technology, Titan Sec, SPC Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics club.

Please RSVP if you would like to attend.

In addition to Ziegenbein’s informative session, SPC Professors Laura Malave and Kevin Thomas will be on hand at the event to answer questions pertaining to the Cybersecurity Certificate and AS Degree offered at St. Petersburg College.

Hope to see you there!
