Study Abroad with SPC in Italy!  Students will learn about the influence of Rome on the development of Western art, architecture, and ideas. We will encounter Rome’s heroic past, the growth of the empire, the pervasive influence of the Roman Catholic Church during the Middle Ages, and the blending of Christian themes and Classical forms in the period of the Renaissance.

In Rome, students will be able to experience great works of art and architecture first-hand by visiting the Vatican Museum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. In addition to visiting Rome, we will also tour Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, Venice, and Assisi.

The experience will give students a better understanding of Italy’s central place in the development of Western civilization.

Italy HS – Looking at the World for the First Time by Jessica Barthle

On the way to Italy for the first time. Looking back I’m sure I’m not the only who can say that this trip has changed me in one way or another. Through this trip, I discovered that when you go out of the country for the first time and get to experience a new culture … Continue reading Italy HS – Looking at the World for the First Time by Jessica Barthle

Italy HS – I have a different sense of who I am by Brae Elliott

Villa Borghese All in all, I would have to say that the last day was my favorite. To choose a favorite day out of our trip is a pretty heavy task when one considers all that we did. I have seen so much culture, art, and architecture. I have been taken out of my element … Continue reading Italy HS – I have a different sense of who I am by Brae Elliott

Italy HS – We came, we saw, and we conquered. by Jessica Barthle

Taking a Cruise on a Rowboat with Corey and Andre I personally believe that, despite all of the wonderful things we had seen previously, our last day in Rome was one of the best because it gave us the chance to finally sit back and take in everything around us. For the first time really, … Continue reading Italy HS – We came, we saw, and we conquered. by Jessica Barthle

Italy HS – Removal of the Ego by Karissa Barrera

Michelangelo’s Pieta I like history, psychology, biology, neuroscience, philosophy, and the humanities. I like thinking about religion, and art, and the ways of mankind, and I found myself perfectly suited to this place. When we went to the Vatican Museum we saw Michelangelo’s Pieta. We saw the Belvedere Torso. We saw tributes to Greek and … Continue reading Italy HS – Removal of the Ego by Karissa Barrera

Italy HS – I wish for everyone to experience something like this by Kaitlin Dement

This trip was absolutely amazing!!! It honestly was so much fun and life changing. From the university to walking around Rome we have all changed in some way or another. I feel we all come to think we love traveling and eating real Italian pizza. I also feel like we all came together in some … Continue reading Italy HS – I wish for everyone to experience something like this by Kaitlin Dement

Italy HS – Feeling Small by Brae Elliott

The Gallery of Maps The Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel were my favorite trips, by far. The museum was difficult to believe. The art in the Vatican are the pieces you read about and hear mentioned your entire life. The works are unintentionally drilled into your subconscious, living as computer screensavers and referenced in … Continue reading Italy HS – Feeling Small by Brae Elliott

Italy HS – I had an inexplicable feeling of connectedness with Rome by Karissa Barrera

Our final day in Rome covered all the areas in which our trip had been lacking. It was slow-paced, provided us with some time to explore on our own, and was completely relaxing after a whole week of sprinting around from tour site to tour site. We slept in, had breakfast, and enjoyed an easy … Continue reading Italy HS – I had an inexplicable feeling of connectedness with Rome by Karissa Barrera
