Study Abroad with SPC in Italy!  Students will learn about the influence of Rome on the development of Western art, architecture, and ideas. We will encounter Rome’s heroic past, the growth of the empire, the pervasive influence of the Roman Catholic Church during the Middle Ages, and the blending of Christian themes and Classical forms in the period of the Renaissance.

In Rome, students will be able to experience great works of art and architecture first-hand by visiting the Vatican Museum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. In addition to visiting Rome, we will also tour Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, Venice, and Assisi.

The experience will give students a better understanding of Italy’s central place in the development of Western civilization.

Day 5: Jewish Ghetto and the Churches “Trastevere” by William Moorhead

The day started off great, as the internet had gotten much better now that another school had left the hotel. Suddenly, I could now look up information for Mr. Hesting’s class in a matter of seconds, and it helped us all put together the last touches on our Model UN resolutions. We learned that in … Continue reading Day 5: Jewish Ghetto and the Churches “Trastevere” by William Moorhead

Dodge Challenger’s Big Italy Adventure: The Jewish Ghettos by Eritha Cainion

Today many emotions whirled around as we stepped into a part of history with much tragedy, anguish, and eventually, perseverance. It was the day Jill toured us around the Jewish ghettos, the day we stepped into the Museo Ebraico di Roma, and my favorite piece of architecture, the Synagogue of Emancipation, or, The Great Synagogue. … Continue reading Dodge Challenger’s Big Italy Adventure: The Jewish Ghettos by Eritha Cainion

Thursday, more like ThuRAINsday, in Italy! by Sara-Kay West

Today, during class, we all participated in a Model United Nations activity. Each student represented one of 11 countries given to us, came up with a resolution, made alliances, etc. I represented Great Britain (mostly because I can do the accent) and, appropriately, wore my Doctor Who shirt. My resolution addressed both the environment and … Continue reading Thursday, more like ThuRAINsday, in Italy! by Sara-Kay West
