St. Petersburg College’s Women on the Way (WOW) and the Positive Directions Association Club (PDA) recently completed their Fall 2017 community service project, collecting more than 70 pairs of new shoes and school supplies that were donated to the Eckerd Kids -Raising Hope program.

Eckerd Kids – Raising Hope helps kids (newborn to 18-years-old) who have been removed from their homes and placed into foster care. They often are removed from their home with just the clothing they are wearing and possibly a few small items placed in a garbage bag.  Afterward, they are placed in foster care.

WOW and PDA wanted to make sure these kids are not forgotten.

Eckerd Kids – Raising Hope gives these children and teenagers clothing, a backpack with schools supplies, toiletries, diapers, and if needed a stuffed animal to help them during this process.  More than 7,000 kids were in the local foster care system as of late September in Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties. With the holidays, this number will grow.

WOW and PDA members volunteered a total of 57 hours to help sort clothing boutique and supply closets for Eckerd Kids – Raising Hope at their Largo office.

It was heartwarming to see what this program does for our community, and we will continue to work with their program for future events.

Many thanks to the St. Petersburg College Clearwater Campus Women on the Way members for their volunteer day of service today! 💙😇
