Taking Internships To The Next Level

SPC is now taking internships to the next level by pairing students from different departments at the college and offering them the opportunity for real work experience. A fine example is the good work being performed by a team of students at Vincent House.   Vincent House is a membership community for persons who are recovering from mental illness.  Last January Kelley Ferranti, Career Placement Specialist reached out to learn about their program.  Ligia Gomez, Program Director at Vincent House was looking to refresh their web site with current, vibrant pictures of the staff and members. Ferranti informed them about the SPC internship program in Web Development.  Within weeks, Sharon Sinton, a Web Development student in the Computer & Information Technology Program secured the internship position.

Later during the semester, Susan Biszewski-Eber, Internship Coordinator became aware that Vikki Mann, a photography student from the Humanities & Fine Arts Program was looking for more hours to complete photo internship. A meeting of both students and Gomez convened and both Sinton and Mann are now working collaboratively on the Vincent House refreshed web site.

Teamwork between different departments is an everyday occurrence in the workplace.  SPC is now taking internships to the next level by pairing departments offering students the opportunity for a real work experience!

Internships are great opportunities for students to exercise skills learned in the classroom.
