 Get started with apprenticeships

Apprenticeship Dialogue EventApprenticeships have always existed in manufacturing and trade industries in the United States. However, in other parts of the world, apprenticeships extend beyond these industries to include the technology field. Before leaving office, former President Barack Obama signed the apprenticeship bill to bring 90 million dollars over the next five years to new and growing industries.

The Department of Labor has since approved nine new IT apprenticeships and expanded four existing apprenticeships:

  • Computer User Support Specialists
  • Business Intelligence Analysts
  • Computer Programmers
  • Computer Network Architects
  • Computer Network Support Specialists
  • Database Administrators
  • Network/Computer Systems Architects and Administrators
  • Computer Systems Analysts
  • Computer and Information Systems Managers.
  • Information Security Specialists
  • Telecommunications Engineering Specialists
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Web Developers

This incentive is in place to make the process easier for employers. Currently, any company that wishes to register for the apprenticeship program is eligible to receive $1,200 per apprentice to offset training costs.
