Earning an industry certification will help your resume stand out from the crowd. In addition, if your industry certification qualifies for free college credit, let your hard work also pay off by saving yourself time and money toward earning your Associate’s degree at SPC.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

  • How easy was it to earn college credit for your Comp TIA Security+ industry certification?

Very simple, just 3 steps after I learned about it. I filled out one online form, responded to an email and sent a free transcript using the CompTIA website.

  • How did the free college credit save you time and money towards your A.S. degree in Cybersecurity?

I estimate that the award has saved me $900 in books and tuition for 2 classes.  Using the rule of thumb of 3 hours for every credit hour, or 18 hours of study per week, I estimate that the credit saved me 180 hours of work over a 10 week term. I plan on taking the Network+ certification also, to save on additional classes.

  • How will the industry certification improve your employment prospects?

CompTIA allows you to connect any certification to your LinkedIn, so if you are an active LinkedIn user these particular certifications might be a boost.  Also, Security+ is accepted by the Department of Defense, as meeting a requirement for some of the jobs that have piqued my interest. In fact, one of those jobs led me to start this program.
