Career opportunity in the Tampa Bay area
Employers in the Tampa Bay area can’t find enough qualified workers to fill technology jobs, according to recent news stories in the Tampa Bay Times and Fox 13 News and an area study by business leaders. The study’s findings showed local employers need IT employees who:
- have three – five years experience and bachelor’s degrees
- value lifelong learning
- possess high-demand skills like Java, .NET and mobile app development and IT security
The need for qualified IT workers and their salaries will remain robust, particularly in Florida, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Across Florida and the Tampa Bay Region, careers in IT are expected to grow at a much higher pace over the next 10 years than other jobs. The median hourly wage for the industry in this region was $29.55 in 2011. Those with flexible and portable skills who can adapt to ever-changing IT processes will be highly valued.
