Career Services Expanding to Meet Your Needs #spccareer

SPC is expanding its Career Services program to better serve students from entry to exit. We are focused on our mission statement that highlights our support of students’ career development.

We Have a Strong Program to Build Upon

Already, incoming students complete the Focus 2 career assessments, and our Career Advisors, Career Specialists, and Career Outreach Specialists provide career counseling and clarification activities to help students refine their career goals. Students who know what they want to do are far more likely to keep on toward their certificate or degree.

And, current students in many programs benefit from internships and other workplace learning opportunities  — totaling 781 students last year alone!

Our Call to Action

Friday, over 70 SPC leaders met to embrace the next challenges and to learn about the integrated academic and students services approach to the expansion of career services.

  • SPC President Dr. Bill Law reminded the group of the Board of Trustee’s call to action for the college to provide entry to exit career services, with a special focus on making sure students are “ready to land in the world that we face.”
  • Senior Vice President Dr. Anne Cooper stated that each Workforce programs must have “work experience built into it and industry certifications built into it.”
  • Dr. Jim Olliver, Provost at the Seminole campus, and Dr. Jason Krupp, Director of Workforce Services laid out the plan for integration and collaboration that will bring career services into your classes as well as in the Career Centers.
  • Dr. Christy Powers and Dr. Deborah Eldridge showed the dynamic approach used by the Paralegal program to engage students in building their career, from the moment they declare their major through their graduation.

What Does This Mean to You, Our Student?

We are building more services to help you transition from SPC into your career. Expanding quality services takes time… but you will see the changes at the campuses over the next year! Follow the blog for more updates on career services.

Thank you to the Workforce Services team for putting this event together.
