Marketing Assistant Internship Available with Human Services Outcomes

Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of social media sites. Proficiency in using laptops, tablet devices, and smartphones, including some familiarity with business apps. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and problem solving skills. Some marketing and/or sales knowledge or experience. Excellent writing skills. Intern will be a member of a small team that will guide the test phase of the transition of Human Services Outcomes, Inc. from a traditional regional service provider to a nationwide distance provider of career and job consulting services. The intern will first learn about the professional career counseling business, followed by assisting with implementation of a marketing strategy for testing the new service concept. Although the marketing strategy will be developed primarily by another SPC (marketing) student, the intern will coordinate with that individual, the course instructor as appropriate, and the HSO team to determine a plan to implement the strategy. The intern will then directly assist with the implementation. Implementation will focus primarily on use of social media marketing methods to create consumer activity through a new interactive website which should be launched by the end of March, 2013. Other marketing implementation may be done during the test phase as well with assistance of the intern. SPC Interns at Disney

Staff from the Internship Office and Career Development Centers visited with SPC students who are interning this semester at Disney World in Orlando, FL in the Disney College Program. The students’ internship roles are in areas including Merchandise, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Recreation and Custodial.

It was very exciting to tour the housing provided to interns, learn about SPC student experiences and even attend a Disney Heritage class where Disney interns learn about the history of Walt and Roy Disney and how they started what we now know to be The Walt Disney World Company. For some SPC students, this internship provided their first time living away from home and for all interns, an opportunity to live with other cast members from all over the world. Favorite aspects to the program include getting to watch nightly fireworks at the completion of their shifts, being trained as a Disney cast members and learning what it takes to create the Disney magic.

SPC students can now apply for the Fall 2013 White House Internship Program. The program’s mission, according to organizers, is to make the “People’s House” accessible to future leaders from around the country.

Securing an internship at the White House provides a chance to prepare for a variety of future careers in fields including political science, law, journalism, healthcare, management and technology. A White House intern’s life decisions could be shaped by this unique opportunity to experience the heartbeat of the country up close and personal.

If selected, interns could be working in the communication department, collecting research for the Domestic Policy Council or learning firsthand about the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” effort.

SPC’s Internship Office has a number of great opportunities in the Tampa Bay area posted on Optimal Resume. The college offers the online tool to help link employers with college candidates.

Local companies are looking for marketing and graphic design students. The Florida Division of Emergency Management is seeking applicants, providing invaluable work experience as the state’s hurricane season approaches.

Then there is the chance to participate in the theater community at American Stage or get experience in drafting in solid works at Space Machine & Engineering Corp. If you are a C++ programmer interested in telemedicine, we know of an employer who is looking for you!

SPC internship coordinators also can provide students with resources for internship opportunities both around the state and the country.

In Sarasota, there are video game/writing internships, web/PHP developer positions with Booty Gaming in Siesta Key or entrepreneurial assistant positions with RJG Publishing. In Central Florida, there are opportunities with Disney Professional Programs such as an aquarium/marine biology internship.

Internship opportunities around the country include openings in areas such as film and radio, KevStal Group in Boston is looking for a storyboard artist to work on a featured film. UNregular Radio in Boston wants an audio engineering and production student. And, according to Internships.com, Northeastern University is providing short-term, summer housing for students looking for internships in Boston.

Internships are a great way to network and gain work experience, and summer is a great time to intern.
