$10,000 In Prizes At The 4th Annual BPE Pitch Competition!

2nd Annual Business Plan Winners

Join us for the St. Petersburg College’s 4th Annual Business Plan and Elevator Pitch Competition. Students will compete head to head in two areas: business plans and elevator pitches for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $10,000. This year there is an additional $2,000 prize for social and/or sustainable entrepreneurship ideas!

The competition takes place on the Seminole Campus, Thursday, April 24th at 6:30 p.m. in the Digitorium located in the C.W. Congressman Young University Partnership Building.

Show Me MY Money!

ApriYoung Money 1l has been designated as financial literacy month so join us for a dynamic, fun-filled event called Young Money. Guest speaker Todd Romer will present 5 steps to help you realize your full money potential.

Young adults from age 16-27 seem to be left out when it comes to personal finance education. Young Money founder Todd Romer shares a 5 Step Money Plan for today’s young adults that is rarely mentioned in high school, college classrooms or even in the home. The steps focus on:

  • Deciding to Dream
  • Automatic Savings
  • Establishing a realistic spending plan
  • Automatic investing
  • Giving

Young Money is about delivering hope and encouragement to anybody who wants to take control of their finances. Get on the right path with your money so you can pursue your dreams with confidence, vigor, and enthusiasm one step at a time.

Two Career Events This Month At Downtown

Ex-Offender WorkshopSPC Downtown will be hosting two career events this month. The first event will be “How to Apply for the Future, When you have a Past” and it will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 11:30-1:00 pm in Room DC-210. Dr. Christy Powers, J.D., Instructor in Charge for SPC Paralegal Program will be the guest speaker and will assist students with addressing their “past” on resumes and in interviews. Save the date and come learn tips  and strategies for moving into a brighter future.

St.Petersburg/Gibbs Job Fairs draws in more than 200 students

A job fair at the St. Petersburg / Gibbs Campus on March 6th drew more than 200 students and over 40 employers, making this one of the largest career service events. The fair was attended by SPC students, alumni and members of the community.

Employers who participated in the fair represented a variety of industries including, technology, healthcare, law enforcement, retail, marketing and hospitality.

Many students said their overall experience at the fair was excellent and they would like to see more employer hiring events on campus.

Preparation Is The Key To Success At The Upcoming SP/G Job Fair

Tarpon Springs Job Fair

The St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus Career Center will host a job fair on Thursday March 6th from 12- 3:00 pm in the lobby of the SS Building. The event will be open to students, alumni, and community members. For students planning to attend this job fair, preparation is essential to success at the Job Fair.

Here are 5 tips to help you prepare for the Job Fair:

  • Bring plenty of resumes.
  • Come dressed to impress.
  • Research employers ahead of time. (See the list below)
  • Prepare a brief introduction to use when speaking with employers.
  • Have a firm handshake, make eye contact and keep a positive attitude!

Plan to come to the St. Petersburg / Gibbs Campus on Thursday, March 6th starting at noon. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet local employers hiring in technology, financial services, health care, payroll, sales, military, law enforcement, hospitality, broadcasting, retail, restaurants and more.

First Impressions Event Was A Success!

DSCN0803 editedThe Seminole Campus Career Services department and Student Support Center hosted a “First Impression” event on Thursday, February 27th. The event consisted of several stations that assisted students with dressing for success, creating a resume, interview tips, and personal hygiene.

The “First Impressions” event was a huge success with over 70 students participating in the career building event. Students comments included “this is great”, “I learned so much”, and “thanks for helping us make a good first impression.”
