The job market is very competitive! If you want to be a strong candidate, you must be ready for various types of job interviews. More and more companies are now using Skype interviews instead of the conventional face-to-face format. This new trend is particularly common for international positions, but some local and regional companies have also found this to be a practical and efficient option for the first-round of candidates. When a prospective employee has applied from out-of-state, a video interview may be the only choice. The best way to get ready for any interview is to practice! With this in mind, the Allstate Campus partnered with other SPC Campuses to promote the Skype Test Drive! This is a fun way to prepare you to get acclimated to online interviewing!
So, here is how this event works. There will be two laptops set up at the Allstate Campus and staff from other Campuses will have the same. One laptop will be used for students to sit down and answer an interview question, via Skype asked by another campus. At the second computer, there will be the Interviewer that other campuses can have their students “call into” to be asked a question. This is a unique chance not only to practice for interviews but also to make valuable connections between students and staff from different Campuses.
Online interviews are just like any job interviews; therefore, preparation is a must! Before attending this event, we encourage you to take a moment and think about the following topics/questions:
- Communication: this skill is essential in both online and face-to-face interview. Are you prepared to deliver on camera clear and precise answers?
- Interview content: be sure to know your skills and abilities. Are you ready to sell your skills clearly?
- Time management: interviews are usually timed. Are you ready to speak concisely, without overstating nor repeating information?
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to practice for online interviews!
When: Thursday, May 18th, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
