Student finds musical calling in MIRA program

Samer Jaber moved to Florida from Lebanon a year ago to stay with his uncle and pursue his education. He was excited to find that through the Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) program at St. Petersburg College he would be able to focus on Music Production.

The MIRA program at SPC offers students a well-rounded, technology-based education that incorporates creativity, technical training and business practices to prepare students to enter the creative and professional fields of recording, production and composition. Students also get the chance to learn from award-winning artists and composers through MIRA. One of Samer’s favorite parts of the program is that the students gain independence from learning how to do all the steps.

Within the year that he has been at SPC, Samer has quickly forged friendships with other musicians. Thanks to introductions by Professor Jeff Donovick, Samer is now a member of a band called White Light Radio. They recently played at the Emerging Artist Series Showcase at the Palladium Theater as part of the MIRA 10-year anniversary. Samer also serves on the MIRA advisory board as a student representative.

Samer was highlighted for this student profile as part of Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month at St. Petersburg College.
