“In the Galleries: Contemporary Music for Cello and Dance,” an evening program featuring dance, music, and art at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art (LRMA) will delight the senses on Friday, June 24 from 6-8 p.m.
Cello artists complement event
Experience a dynamic blend of sound and motion as you tour the museum galleries. Cellist and recording artist, Theresa Villani, accompanied by Colleen Schmitt, pianist, will present a repertoire of contemporary music for cello to complement the exhibition Into the Third Dimension: Sculpture from the Collection.
Tampa-Bay area guest choreographers and dancers, Melissa Hull and Mary Richardson, will interpret the music with improvisational dance performances next to selected works.
Music for the evening will include:
- “Sayuri’s Theme” from Memoirs of a Geisha, chosen to interpret Akiko Sugiyama’s mixed-media work Otohime’s Robe
- Aaron Minsky’s etude “Laid-back Devil” for Victor Vasarely’s colorful screenprint on wood, Czakk
Before the performances, there will be an introduction to the exhibition, which features a variety of modern and contemporary sculptural objects arranged in two galleries with separate themes—Figure and Form and Imagination and Transformation. The exhibition will be on view through Sept. 18.
A reception with light refreshments will follow the program.
