On Saturday, Aug. 4, SPC SCUBA club members, along with some friends, met at Indian Shores Beach for a morning of beach cleanup.
Reef Monitoring Inc., a non-profit corporation made up of several former St. Petersburg College marine biology students and current Clearwater Campus faculty, keeps a close eye on local waters.
SPC’s Bay Pines STEM Center and Dr. Erin Goergen are part of a statewide effort – through work with students, surveys and cleanups – to reduce the impact of marine debris on wildlife habitats.
Rubik’s cubes, Sudoku, and bingo were the “textbooks” for SPC Downtown’s STEM Bowl, offering students the opportunity to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math career opportunities and college programs all while having fun.
In March, the St. Petersburg College Bay Pines STEM Center received a brand new water sampling well that will help the college’s environmental science students practice their skills and monitor the sensitive ecosystem around the STEM Center.
