Every 3 minutes, one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. The “Be the Match” registry is the connection between patients searching for a cure and life saving stem cells.
On Monday, March 12, Marc Silver was in the HEC lobby with the SNA officers and members recruiting volunteers for “Be the Match”. Over 100 HEC students participated by becoming members of the “Be the Match” registry. In the morning, Marc presented in the EMS class and the paramedics class. In the afternoon, he presented to each of the day Level I Nursing classes. He then went to BayCare and presented to the evening Level I Nursing class.
One of the students who signed up last year to be a donor, informed us that she had received a call and an email that she was a match! Additionally, one of our SPC students needs a match and has two possible matches.
