The Palm Harbor Library and St. Petersburg College’s Tarpon Springs Campus present their third annual ACEcon (Anime and Comics Enthusiast Convention). This two-day event will be held rain or shine:
- Saturday, April 16 (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) at the Palm Harbor Library
- Sunday, April 17 (12 – 5 p.m.) at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs Campus FA Building.
Workshops include origami, readers’ round table discussion (comics and anime) and how to self-publish your work, which will be presented by College of Business Academic Department Chair Dr. Jenice Armstead. Also scheduled is a presentation by Communications faculty member Fred Oppliger called “Subtle Cultural Influences in Anime.” For those who love gaming, a room will be designated for strategy board gaming and Dungeons and Dragons organizational play.
Outside, grab a bite to eat at our food trucks Engine 53 (pizza) or Lizzie Cakes (desserts and beverages). There will also be an air-conditioned mobile gaming trailer available from 2- 4:30 p.m. that seats 25 individuals and is equipped with the latest video games.
Dress up and participate in the costume contest! Participants will be judged in categories such as:
- Best Anime
- Best Comic Book
- Best Thrift Store Costume
- Best Original Costume
- and more
Afterwards learn all about your favorite heroes during the Character Q&A Panel Discussion. The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art will also be on hand with a mask making booth.
