As part of scheduled Veterans Day observance events, USF would like to honor those who have served and their families by offering them an opportunity to take advantage of the information and services that your organization offers.

There will be tented tables, booths and assistance stations which will allow you to interact not only the USFSP veteran and military student population, but with as many veterans in the downtown St. Petersburg community as we can reach.

Changes Coming to TRICARE Rx

Starting October 1, 2015, a new law requires all TRICARE beneficiaries, except active duty servicemembers, to get select brand name maintenance drugs through either TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery or from a military pharmacy.

Beneficiaries who keep using a retail pharmacy for these drugs will have to pay the full cost. Maintenance drugs are those you take regularly for a long time.

The law does not apply to drugs you take for a short time, like antibiotics.

Beneficiaries living overseas, or with other prescription drug coverage, are not affected.

You can check with your local military pharmacy to see if they carry your prescription.

For more information about this change to TRICARE’s pharmacy benefit, visit the TRICARE New Rules for Filling Prescriptions webpage.

For more on TRICARE, visit the Military.com TRICARE section.

Seminole SVA Honors 9/11 Vets

This year on 9/11 the Student Veterans Association of Seminole Campus SPC decided to honor our men and women in uniform with sweets.  The group assembled volunteers and donations and purchased cake and cupcakes for all four Seminole Fire Stations as well as the Sherriff’s office.  They gathered first thing in the morning and carpooled to pay homage to the Madeira Beach 9/11 memorial in the Causeway Park on Tom Stuart Causeway.  After their group photo they caravanned to each fire station and ended with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office.

This is the second year in a row that the Seminole SVA has delivered sweets to these brave men and women in uniform, and they look forward to having the opportunity to honor them again in 2016.

This was the photo from station 29 that was posted on the Seminole Fire Dept. FB.  In the above photo the fireman next to the one holding the cake is one of our students as well.

The letter of thanks is addressed to Peter Parapon (Air Force), he was unable to make it to the fire stations but he represented the whole group at the Sheriff’s Department.

Wreaths Across America

SPC Student Veterans lead charge to help honor fallen service members through wreaths

Seminole, FL – Members from the St. Petersburg College Student Veterans Association are taking on the task of raising money to put the wreaths on the graves of fallen service members at Bay Pines National Cemetery.

The group participated in the placing of the wreaths at the cemetery last year during the holiday season and was disappointed in the amount of graves that were left without a wreath.  Only 800 of the roughly 33,000 graves at Bay Pines had a wreath for the holidays.

“It is a great opportunity to participate in the event but it was disappointing to see so many gravesites with no wreaths” said Parapon.

The Student Veterans Association is partnering with Wreaths Across America on this project.

This is a large task and student vets are asking for the support of individuals and local businesses to help accomplish the mission.  Donations for wreaths can be made on the Wreaths Across America website and for every 2 wreaths bought for the Bay Pines Cemetery, a 3rd will be placed at the location for no additional cost.

“The cost of freedom is visible at Bay Pines and a wreath for the holidays is just a small token of appreciation for those sacrifices” Parapon added.
