New SPC Supply Chain Program

Everyone is probably familiar with some aspect of supply chain, especially individuals with military experience- but did you know it’s a critical function in any company that brings products and services to market.

St. Petersburg College offers short-term training in supply chain management (SCM) for individuals who want to advance their skills or learn new ones. This would be a perfect opportunity for a veteran to enhance their professional skill set while they are furthering their education.

The LINCS program prepares participants for a multitude of SCM positions across various functions of companies. Participants are free to select one certification track or all tracks, depending on their individual educational and career goals. After completing a non- credit course, participants may sit for a certification exam offered and certified by The Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP).

St. Petersburg College offers the following non- credit courses:

Supply Chain Management Principles (Course begins July 14, 2015)
Customer Service Operations (Course begins July 14, 2015)
Transportation Operations (Course begins July 6, 2015)
Warehousing Operations (Course begins June 16, 2015)

Choice Act – In State Tuition Requirement

The Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs announced a blanket waiver to all non-compliant states until December 31, 2015 (granted a waiver).

The Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (“Choice Act”) included a provision affecting students using the Post-9/11GI Bill® and Montgomery GI Bill. The law requires the VA to disapprove programs under the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty at public institutions of higher learning if the school charges certain individuals tuition and fees in excess of the resident rate for terms beginning after July 1, 2015.

The VA is working with every state and territory since December on complying – no state or territory has indicated its schools do not intend to comply with the law. In fact, as of today 21 states comply with the resident rate-requirements of the Choice Act (www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/702.asp).

The VA is working hard to ensure all GI Bill beneficiaries have up to date information and is updating the GI Bill website with the latest information as schools and states comply with these requirements.

You can also find breaking information on the GI Bill Facebook page.

You can also read new FAQs by visiting here and searching “702” or you can call 1-888-GIBILL-1 to speak with a Customer Service Representative who is ready to answer your questions.

Bay Pines VA Women Veterans Campaign

Bay Pines VA to host Women Veterans Campaign event June 12
The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (VAHCS) will hold a special event as part of the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) National Women Veterans Campaign on June 12. The event will take place in the JC Cobb room located on the first floor of the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Women Veterans and their families, Veteran Service Organizations, other stakeholders, and the general public are invited to attend. To download a printable event flyer, click here.

The event will showcase various VA health care resources available for women Veterans to include VA health care enrollment and eligibility, women’s health, homeless Veteran services, mental health, health promotion and disease prevention, and employment services. Representatives from the Veterans Benefits Administration, National Cemetery Administration, Vet Center and Florida Department of Veterans Affairs will also be in attendance.

“Across the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System’s service area, we serve approximately 8,200 women Veterans,” said Suzanne M. Klinker, Director, Bay Pines VAHCS. “These heroes have access to exceptional services to meet their health care needs and empower their health.

“There are many more women Veterans who are not taking advantage of the VA benefits they have earned and deserve through their military service,” she said. “That is really what the Women Veterans Campaign is all about – it is an opportunity to showcase our services to women Veterans and recognize their courage, sacrifice and service to our nation.

Another highlight of the event is the formal program scheduled from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. The program will feature several guest speakers to include a keynote address from Dr. Betty Moseley Brown, Associate Director, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Center for Women Veterans. As Associate Director for VA’s Center for Women Veterans, Dr. Moseley Brown serves as the facilitator for VA’s National Summit on Women Veterans’ Issues – a major training and outreach event for women Veterans, women Veterans advocates and other federal agencies that provide services to women Veterans. She has also been instrumental in promoting national awareness of the contributions made by women who served in the military through multiple department-wide efforts, such as VA’s “Her Story” campaign and a video titled “Faces Behind the War.”

The C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center is one of only five VA sites across the country selected to hold an event as part of the national campaign. For questions or to learn more about the event, please call Julia Adams, Women Veterans Program Manager for the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, at 727-398-6661 extension 14312 or email vhabaywomenvetscampaign@va.gov.

Updated military occupations included in O*NET websites

Over 10,000 MOC occupations are linked to related O*NET-SOC occupations. The crosswalk is supplemented with data from the Army COOL, Navy COOL, and Marine Corps COOL projects.

Transitioning military personnel can use their military code or title to discover related civilian occupations/careers within O*NET Online’s Military Crosswalk Search or My Next Move for Veterans’ Military Transition Search.
