CCIT welcomes Academic Department Chair Laura Malave

Laura Malave Academic Chair, CCIT
Laura Malave
Academic Chair, CCIT

I was born in Tampa, FL. My background includes more than 10 years of Information Technology educational experience and I have served as an Information Technology Faculty member at Hillsborough Community College and Keiser University.

Some of my industry certifications include:

  • A+
  • Network+
  • Security+
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Master
  • JNCIA-Junos

I have always had an interest in the Computer Science field. This led me to pursue my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Computer Science from the University of South Florida. As I advanced in my studies, I cultivated an interest in Cybersecurity. This moved me to join the (ISC) 2 Tampa Bay Chapter, where I volunteer my time as a planning committee member for the Tampa B-Sides Information Security Conference. The purpose of the chapter is to spread information security in local communities throughout the Tampa Bay area. It provides an excellent opportunity to network with other professionals in the field and collaborate on projects.

In addition to my love for Computer Science, I have always been fond of teaching. I enjoy teaching courses in online, blended and face-to-face formats. Working with students to help them achieve their goals has always been a priority of mine.

Now that I work for St. Petersburg College, some of the courses I will be teaching this fall include:

  • Computer Applications (CGS 1100)
  • Computer Repair Essentials (CET 1171C)
  • Computer Support Technician (CET 1172C )
  • Ethical Hacking (CIS 2352)

Learn more about these courses on the CCIT web page.

Though Midtown is my home campus, I will also be teaching at the Downtown Campus in the fall. Since I will also be serving in the capacity as an Academic Department Chair, I will be working with faculty, adjuncts and students from my assigned campuses. I look forward to my new role and responsibilities.
