When circumstances suddenly changed for Craig Corlis, he left his position with Child Support Enforcement Services in Pennsylvania and moved to Florida and began working at the Clearwater Police Department. Due to unexpected medical problems, he was forced to leave the police department and go back to school. He currently attends St. Petersburg College, where he is pursuing a degree in Web Development with a specialization in Mobile Applications.
Since an internship was required for his degree program, Corlis took action to find one that was the right fit. After an intensive search on numerous web sites, Corlis found an internship at Cox Media in Tampa, FL, which he began serving in August of 2012. On November 23rd, he was hired as a permanent employee, which he said is “an exciting opportunity.”
At Cox, Corlis is a Digital Producer. His duties include: updating and designing seven major web sites for each of the major Tampa radio stations, such as Magic 94.9 and Hot 101.5. He also researches new content, creates sweepstakes and event listings, designs site graphics and layouts and Google maps.
“Building on the foundation and talents of our core, we are transforming CMG into a digital media company by creating scalable content and advertising services. We accomplish this with speed, passion and courage,” he said. Corlis further stated that Cox has “a fun environment with great people and there’s always something new to learn.”
For students who plan to pursue an internship in the future, Corlis suggests that “you treat every day of your internship like an interview, don’t be complacent, ask questions and build a reputation as a reliable person.”
