St. Petersburg College’s Eta Nu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for Community College Students recently received an award for their college project – the creation of a mural on the Student Services building of the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
Six members of the chapter from the St. Petersburg/Gibbs, Downtown and Midtown campuses, traveled to Nashville for Catalyst, the annual international convention, held April 6-9.
The convention featured world-class speakers including Dr. Jennifer Arnold, photographer Platon, and Jamie Hyneman from MythBusters.
Students attended numerous educational forums and had the chance to network with PTK members from around the world.
Phi Theta Kappa Hallmark Award
They also competed for Hallmark Awards for their projects completed during the previous academic year. This year, the SPC chapter won a Hallmark Award for their mural on the Student Services building of the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
Mural ribbon-cutting
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the mural on Wednesday, April 26, from 12-1 p.m. in front of the building. It is open to the community. St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin with attend, as well as the mural’s artist Derek Donnelly. Refreshments will be served.
