Pizza with the President

Every semester, SPC President Tonjua Williams invites student leaders to take a seat at the table to enjoy pizza and engage in a meaningful conversation. At the event, students can take the opportunity to share new ideas, strategies and ways to improve the student experience. More than 60 students, SPC leadership and collegiate high school students attended Pizza with the President at SPC St. Petersburg Gibbs Campus on Friday, Oct. 25.

President Williams started the conversation by encouraging the students to share how SPC can better serve their needs and by informing the group of the demographics of the college, including:

  • SPC has more than 47,000 students pursuing a certificate or/and degree.
  • 35 percent are first-generation college students
  • 75 percent are working while pursuing their education

Several students expressed their success and gratitude for being a Titan but also candidly shared the everyday challenges they face beyond the classroom. One of the hurdles that were on top of attendees’ minds was mental health. Another issue that students brought up was regarding adequately serving the growing student veteran population. As the dialog continued, fresh and innovative ideas filled the room on how to address these sensitive needs.
