The Florida College System Council of Presidents named SPC President the Chair for 2022-23 year

The Florida College System Council (FCS) of Presidents appointed SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams as Chair for the 2022-23 year. Williams previously served as vice chair from 2021 to 2022. The council is a collective body on issues and matters of concern to Florida’s public college system. The group provides information, as it deems appropriate, to the State and Federal Executive and Legislative branches and to the Chancellor of the FCS, the Commissioner of Education, the State Board of Education, and other public and private entities and individuals.

The FCS is a single system of 28 public colleges authorized to offer certificates and associate and baccalaureate degrees. The Council of Presidents (COP) is comprised of the President of each college of the FCS.

Thanks to the support of both the Florida Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis, the FCS is strong, innoative, and responsive to Florida’s industries and businesses. Florida College System students earn more than 120,000 credentials each year and have been projected to earn more than 435,000 credentials by the end of 2024-25.

The Council of Presidents recognizes the following continuing subordinate councils and shall direct and monitor their work and the work of their subcommittees:

  • Council of Business Affairs (COBA)
  • Council on Instructional Affairs (CIA)
  • Council of Student Affairs (CSA)
  • Council of Workforce Education (CWE)
  • Florida Council for Resource Development (FCRD)
