So when I first found out that I was going on this trip, I was definitely super excited knowing that I would get to add to my teaching skills by teaching children in another country. It wasn’t until day four (Thursday) that I realized that yes, this is a great experience for my future career, but more importantly it’s a LIFE CHANGING experience in so many ways. These children are full of love and the desire to learn! THEY taught ME that even when things aren’t easy, it’s important to keep going. I was reminded daily that EVERY CHILD CAN LEARN. The principal at my school is an amazing woman that lets these children know just how important they are and why education is so vital.
My favorite things I’ve experienced: chicken foot soup, children hugging me every minute and playing with my hair, children asking to come home in my handbag, not being able to leave the school without children chasing after our bus, children singing songs, jumping rope with the children, my school team (family) as well as everyone else that is here for these kids, eating goat, learning Jamaican dances, and just really FEELING that One Love attitude that is indescribable unless you come here and experience it. I don’t want to leave!!!!!
Sara, your post is so touching, i had goosebumps AND tears. I love the visual of the kids chasing the bus and asking to come home in your handbag. Precious!
