In January, over 20 SPC students and staff helped to usher in the Year of the Horse at a Chinese New Year Celebration hosted by the Confucius Institute at USF.  The Celebration featured professional performances that included a dragon dance, illuminated Chinese yoyo show, Chinese instruments and cultural games with special gifts to the winners.

Students were able to be immersed in Chinese culture right here at home!

Here are some of their comments:

Sane Haidara: Growing up in Timbuktu, as a child I have always heard about the Chinese New Year Celebration. I had to come to America, and experience this magnificent holiday. It’s like a dream come true!

Jasmine Shamsi: I have never been to a Chinese Celebration before, so attending this event was wonderful! The dragon dance was very unique and entertaining and the music sounded very pleasant and enjoyable.

Andrew Malyj: It was cool, fun, and a unique opportunity.  I got to learn about different Chinese instrument and some of the traditional dance they have.
