SPC student explores historic architecture during excursions in Spain

Traveling abroad for the first time and learning language, history, culture, and a wedding dance during study abroad in Spain.

My experience in España so far has been unforgettable. This being my first time traveling alone or outside of the country, I was a little nervous, but the friendly environment and amazing cultural experiences have made Salamanca feel like home.

My teachers in class at Estudio Sampere have encouraged and inspired me to increase my Spanish speaking a great amount. With the support of my teachers, classmates and many others I’ve met along the way, I feel like my Spanish has increasingly gotten better.

The sights here in Spain have been the most breathtaking scenery I’ve ever experienced. One of the things I find very impressive about Spain is its architecture. The cathedral de Salamanca was the most beautiful church I’ve ever been to. This massive work of art was nothing like I’d ever seen or would ever see in the United States.

In the town of Salamanca, there are always events and activities to do. Between the Festival de Luz in the Plaza Major and the spectacular firework show we saw, I can say the town of Salamanca is definitely entertaining.

Local excursions

This past Saturday my class and I traveled to Cáceres, a medieval town about 2 hours away from Salamanca. We took a tour of the town which allowed us to enjoy the rich history and gorgeous sights this town has to offer. Some classmates and I even took it upon ourselves to join a traditional wedding dance with some locals in the middle of the plaza.

On Sunday the class and I took a trip to Peña de Francia and La Alberca. Peña de Francia was a medieval town located on the top of a mountain. It featured a gorgeous church and a beautiful mountain top view. After that we went to the small town of La Alberca.

With these towns’ interesting history and peaceful scenery, I was able to enjoy a truly unique piece of Spain. I look forward to seeing new sights, having more cultural experiences, and bettering my Spanish while here on my study abroad program in Spain.
