SPC Costa Rica: A Dream Study Abroad Experience

The business study abroad program to Costa Rica felt like stepping into a dream—a perfect blend of learning, adventure, and cultural immersion. It was a journey filled with transformative experiences and unforgettable memories. After a seven-year break, I returned to SPC to complete my bachelor’s degree, determined to fulfill my goal of studying abroad. This trip brought that dream to life and surpassed all expectations. With support from the SPC Foundation, I joined a business-focused program that merged exploration with education.
In partnership with Helen and the ILSA school in Costa Rica, we had an exceptional itinerary, including visits to prominent factories like LAICA, Dos Pinos, Ujarrás, and Natural Sins, alongside companies such as Emerson, a tech leader, and Swiss Tropical Pineapple Plantation. These visits offered a fascinating look into Costa Rica’s thriving industries and their impact on the global market.

The adventure began with a visit to the Poas Volcano. Though its crater was veiled in clouds, the surreal setting felt like a scene from a video game. At La Paz Waterfalls and Zoo, we marveled at breathtaking waterfalls and vibrant wildlife, while a tour of Swiss Tropical’s pineapple plantation left me awestruck—I’ve never seen so many pineapples in one place!
Beyond academics, the trip fostered meaningful connections with fellow SPC students, a rare opportunity for me as a predominantly online learner. The warmth of Costa Rican people made this journey unforgettable. Miguel, our guide, and Michael, our driver, enriched every moment with their knowledge and enthusiasm. Everywhere we went, we were met with heartfelt hospitality, gaining insights into cherished traditions and local stories.

Costa Rica’s commitment to eco-tourism was equally inspiring, showcasing how sustainability can harmonize with thriving industries. Costa Rica is more than a destination—it’s a soulful experience that lingers long after the journey ends. Pura Vida, Costa Rica. Until next time.
