Traveling to South Africa this past July I came across some of the most incredible experiences. I got the chance to see live animals such as baboons walking the streets or ostriches crossing the road. I got the opportunity to work with student doctors in clinics and also with younger children in poverty. It was truly a blessing and changed my life. When traveling to a another country by yourself with your fellow students it takes a toll on you. You start to compare your living situation in our country to the economy of impoverished areas in South Africa. It makes you appreciate every little thing that you have in your life. The economic crisis that goes on in South Africa today is so unfortunate. However, students that have the opportunity to travel to South Africa to volunteer in these clinics and help with the younger children at the local schools should definitely take it! It makes the children’s day and they are so grateful for you to be there helping them. Your experience in South Africa will be a memory you will cherish the rest of your life.
