International Students Reflect on the Holocaust Museum by Mary Lancaster

On Sunday, February 23, 2014, a group of international students and International Club members participated in a trip to the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.  It was a heartfelt learning experience for all.  Some of the international students did not know about the Holocaust and appreciated learning about what happened.

This trip was a very educational experience not only for the students, but for others in the community as well, as it offered an opportunity to learn about World War II and Holocaust education in other countries. Here are some of the reactions the students had to their Holocaust Museum visit:holocaust museum trip

Makara Thy (Cambodia) “I didn’t know about the Holocaust and was very sad about the stories that I learned during the trip.”

Roberta Spathari (Albania) “This experience was very educational.  It was interesting to find out that Albania was the only country in Europe that had more Jewish people at the end of the war.  I felt connected when I watched a short film at the museum because I am from Albania.”

Sane Haidara (Mali) “It was a life learning lesson.  I believe everyone should be accepted in the world.”

Camilli Christian (American) “I was inspired by the bravery of the Jewish people and those who helped them.”
