I can’t recommend study abroad SPC enough.

I went on study abroad in Costa Rica to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone with the intention of learning about endemic organisms and Costa Rica culture.

Challenge
My name is Julie Weaver and I am a 64 year old organismal biology major returning to college for a second Bachelor’s degree after 38 years. I knew this trip would be a challenge but I also hoped it would broaden my horizons and help me grow. At my age…a challenge.

Reality
I got what I expected and so much more. I rafted on white water for the first time with our team. I learned about endemic species of plants, insects, reptiles, amphibians and mammals from expert professors and attended a sea turtle release. I met the indigenous tribe of the BriBri and learned their customs. I snorkeled on both coasts, logged data with our team and learned all about bat conservation. And surprisingly, at my age, made fifteen new wonderful friends that I’ll never forget!

Recommendation
The study abroad coordinators, tour guides and drivers were an amazing crew. They kept us moving and safe and delivered us to every event on time. We knew that we could count on them for anything we needed. I can’t recommend study abroad SPC enough.

PURA VIDA!
