The idea of studying abroad was always a far distant idea in the back of my head. I never thought it to be possible, but it was always a dream. When I saw the opportunity to study abroad in Greece with SPC, I was skeptical at first but thought I would give it a chance. A chance that was well worth it. The process of applying was made very easy with continuous emails sent for reminders of due dates and always being able to go the study abroad office if you needed to personally talk to someone. The study abroad process was easy and well worth it, because I was able to have experiences that I will never forget while learning so much about Greece and the culture. The Greece trip was great and full of many different adventures.
We arrived on the small island of Kalymnos and were given the opportunity to stay with a host family, an opportunity that I jumped on in seconds- when was I ever going to get another chance to stay with a host family in Greece? As a guest to a host family, I experienced the well-known Kalymnos hospitality. I was immediately welcomed with hugs from the family and asked if I needed anything to make my trip better. Soon after arriving I ate a home cooked meal- a real greek salad, spaghetti, and pastitsio. After my lunch, me and the daughter of the host family- Maria- went down to the hotel to meet up with everyone else. Maria showed us around the town, took us to some of her favorite stores and for dinner she took us to the best restaurant in town. At the end of the first day, I could tell that this was going to be a very good trip, filled with sight-seeing, learning, and fun.
