The trip has been fantastic so far! We found 8 sea turtles and took biometrics, tagged, and got tissue samples from each one!
Our last turtle was a Hawskbill who we brought back to the hospital for a 24 hour stay in fresh water to rid her of parasites.
We also found an incredibly large Green sea turtle measuring over 90 cm in shell length so she was exciting to work with and amazing to see!
The local veterinarian is also in town and has given us lectures on turtle anatomy and physiology which were both very informative and interesting! We have also been able to assist with a mangrove restoration project for the local area! We measured their progress based on location, then helped plant new seedlings! The entire experience is very interesting and exciting!
