Chinese Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival Celebration by Anna Faiola

bliog 2On September 8, 2014, a group of students from Clearwater and Gibbs campuses with their advisors went to the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration.  The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated by the Chinese on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar.  Everyone was invited to experience cultural performances and taste moon cakes. The event was held in the MSC Ballroom. The event was sponsored by the USF Chinese Students and Scholars Association, and co-sponsors include Chinese Culture and Language Club, Confucius Institute, and INTO USF.  Here are some quotes from students who experienced the Chinese Celebration:

Katherine Sun: “The moon cakes makes me reminisce my childhood as when we were celebrating Chinese New Year and Chinese festival.”

Domenica Flores: “I love the Chinese Festival! I learn a new culture and made new friends :)”

Ronda Bailey: “The mid-autumn moon festival was so much fun. I enjoyed experiencing a new culture. Now I want to learn mandarin so I can understand more next year.”

Jose Villada: ”It really shows you the talents from individuals and what they possess. New culture helps you capture new details from people of that culture. It is something I will defiantly want to experience again and learn more from.”

Matthew Azzolina: “The festival was a thought-provoking and moving experience. The musical performance with the flutes was awe inspiring.”

Sane Haidara: “This is my third time at the moon festival, and each time I learn something extraordinarily interesting about the Chinese culture.”
