On February 8, 2018 the Taste of Soul quad event took place on St. Petersburg College Clearwater Campus. The theme of the event was Black History Month which allowed every club, department and faculty to share an outstanding African American person of notability. Our college President, Dr. Tonjua Williams, was one of the feature honorees displayed. The Center for International programs shared the table with the Multi-Cultural Club. Club members made a poster board, about the famous tennis player, Serena Williams. To go along with this poster board, the club included a questionnaire based on the information club members put on the poster board. Students had a chance to take the questionnaire in hopes of winning a prize for answering all the questions correctly.
Multiple students participated in the quiz and the only student who got all the questions right was Sebastian Amado! Congratulations!! During the event, the students enjoyed a delicious homemade Harrison Clearwater BBQ lunch and some live music. The band “Smooth D and the Boyz” was performing live jazz music while the painter Carlos Culbertson created art commemorating Black History Month in the ES building. Carlos calls himself a Zulu painter, and he is an aerosol-based mural artist. If you are in South St Pete under the interstate of Downtown St Pete, you get a chance to see some amazing art shared with the St. Petersburg Community. We are very fortunate to have one of the artists featured, on campus, to celebrate African American History month. Throughout the full month of February, the artist Carlos will complete the work that he started to also add to the contributions St. Pete College Clearwater has made to celebrate Black History Month history.
The students had the opportunity to explore SPC Career Services including academic advisors, financial aid assistance and various club exhibits. The best club exhibit of this quad event was the Badeya club, who had an amazing presentation of African American history. Badeya club’s presentation won the award for best presentation and will receive an ice cream social courtesy of SGA.
Congratulations Badeya Club! None of this would be possible if Ms. Kay Morgan, the Student Success Manager of the SPC Clearwater Campus, without her effort and dedication to bring everyone together so that this quad event would be successful for all students, faculty and staff. We are glad that SPC provides this beautiful space to have fun and to have the chance to get involved with students and faculty in one place.
