SPC Salamanca Abroad: I thoroughly enjoyed my time

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and I had so much fun. I was so thankful for being granted a scholarship that way I could go. There was so much that I learned and I saw. My goal for going to Spain was to expand my Spanish speaking ability. I went from not being able to understand anything when I arrived, to being able to understand most of what everyone was talking about. That is something I never could have learned from a classroom in America. I also learned a lot about the history and culture of Spain. It was so different than America. It was a culture shock and very eye opening to see what another country was like. For my trip I paid for the additional excursions which I highly recommend, it really was worth the extra money. My favorite was probably Peña de Francia. Which is a mountain outside of Salamanca, and we got to see mountain goats. I loved that we weren’t just confined to the lookout and we actually got to hike outside. The mountain goats were very cool to observe, we actually got to see some of them fight one another. Another cool excursion was going to the Basque Country, I enjoyed getting to walk around and tour the city. There was another mountain there that we got to climb. It was interesting because even though they are a part of Spain they still consider themselves a separate country. They also speak a completely separate language, the characters on the signs were different and it was difficult to tell what the sign was saying. I person was not a fan of France, I didn’t think there was all that much to see, the beaches were very cool and they had very interesting rock formations on the beach. The city wasn’t very interesting, it just looked like a normal city. It was nice being able to converse with lots of different people in Spain. I was able to learn a lot from everyone, I picked up a lot and learned so much just by listening to what people were saying.– Nicolas, SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

I recommend the Summer Spain Immersion Program as it is one of the best ways to ingrain the Spanish you already know and learn and improve upon your Spanish skills. Students that take this program will stay in a medieval city called Salamanca for three weeks. It is a beautiful l city that is perfect if you are like me and love medieval and Gothic architecture. Salamanca is in Northwest Spain. The teachers at Estudio Sampere are very enthusiastic about teaching, and they would go to great lengths to ensure that we understand the lesson. During the weekday mornings, the Saint Petersburg College professors accompanying the group to Spain held tutor sessions in a local coffee shop near the Plaza Mayor, the main city square. Many of Salamanca’s activities, such as Plays, music festivals, Holiday Performances, and other celebrations, were in the Plaza Mayor. Many shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars are located in and around the Plaza Mayor, so many people spend much of their time there meeting new people and trying local foods and drinks. The people in Salamanca are very friendly, and it was very easy to find people to talk to in Spanish, especially the people that you will meet at the cafés.
The living situation can be interesting. Some of my friends lived with a family. However, it was a bit for me and my roommate. We lived in a room in an apartment with four to five other people. The host family did not live with us but instead came throughout the day to cook lunch and dinner and clean. During lunch and dinner, twenty to thirty exchange students from around the world who resided in the nearby apartments would trickle in for the meal.
One of the activities with the best view was the night walk over the old Roman bridge known as “Puente Mayor del Tormes,” which goes over the Tormes River. From across the bridge, you can see the Cathedral lit up against the night sky, with a clear reflection in the Tormes River. Additionally, there is a small cat sanctuary on the walk.– Patrick, SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

SPC Spain Abroad: Expanded my view on the world

There are very few words I can use to describe this recent Spain trip that would do it justice. Frankly, the trip for me, and for many of my colleagues that went as well, was a phenomenal experience. Learning about the culture and history of Spain while being able to experience it firsthand was something very incredible, especially being able to live with host families and seeing a glimpse of what life was like for them in Spain. The school we attended for our classes, Estudio Sampere, was a small but comfortable school, being situated near the life of the city, Plaza Mayor, and overall being a brilliant school to learn Spanish at. The professors at the school were very effective in the ways they would teach their lessons, being able to bridge the language barrier gap and make each class day enjoyable. Often, these same professors would be our tour guides for after school activities around Salamanca, taking us to different cultural sites and museums. There were many different activities of this three-week program that I enjoyed, however I believe the activities I enjoyed the most were the excursions we would take outside of Salamanca, such as the trips to Peña de Francia, La Alberca, Donostia, and elsewhere. While most of the fun was had within the city limits of Salamanca, it was interesting to see the other areas of Spain and how differently life is for them, especially during our trip to the Basque Country. Otherwise, Salamanca was a host to many different diversions, all of which turned out to be very interesting and fun. Whether it was a concert, a stunt performance, fireworks, or a simple night out with your fellow classmates, Salamanca had much to offer and did not disappoint. As someone who was initially worried about entering into a study abroad program for the first time, I can without a doubt say that this experience I had in Spain has truly opened my eyes for the better, being able to expand my view on the world and discover more about myself, as well as inspiring me to seek out other study abroad opportunities in the future. – Richard, SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

SPC Spain Abroad: I would recommend!

The Spanish immerse program was really amazing. It was quite hectic to find the terminal where the rest of the group was, but none the less professor Roxane found me and I got on the bus to Salamanca. On arrival we were all greeted with smiles, beautiful buildings and tasty food. It is a great place to be a student, walk around and get to know Spain on a deeper level. I enjoyed the very first group activity in the center of Salamanca. Listening to music and the orchestra is quite relaxing. I would definitely be happy to attend that group avtuvityvonce more
Another group activity that I enjoyed was when we are the Spanish empanadas one was made from fun and the other was made from veggies. Obviously the veggie empanadas was my favorite because of the richness of the veggies and contrast of the bread. Spanish empanadas were one of the highlight of the trip. In addition to this, I enjoyed the trip to the museum l, we walked for long hours and saw so much of the city. It was quite magical if you ask me, I would kike to do that again. I really did enjoy the Salamanca experience, I learned so much Spanish and enjoyed the teachers as well. Grammar for 1 hour and conversational for another hours a great way to teach students.
I will try to keep this post short because I did enjoy the trip that much. The food, the people, the atmosphere was just really really incredible. 10/10 would recommend. The professors, supervisors, teachers and staff were all just incredible and helpful. I hope I can attend Salamanca Spanish immersion program in 2024. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. To wrap up my final thoughts, Salamanca is one of the most beautiful places on earth with nice people, good food and amazing architecture. I would recommend this Spanish language immersion program to all spc students because of the amazing professors, welcoming vibe from the residents of that city and the tasty food that will keep you energized throughout the days.– Shirley, SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

SPC Spain Abroad:Go for it!!

It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend the Summer Spanish Immersion Program in Salamanca Spain. For starters, how many people can say that they lived in a medieval city for three weeks while learning Spanish and experiencing and sharing the everyday life of a Salamancan family? What a rare opportunity!
The city is absolutely beautiful, as are its inhabitants. I still can’t get over how demonstrably friendly not only the home stay families were, but also the other residents of Salamanca I encountered who were total strangers to us. The Salamancan people, and the Spanish people in general that I encountered were kind-hearted, happy to chat and were genuinely interested in why we were there.
We worked diligently in our classes, but the professors were so endearing and happy to share all aspects of our daily experiences as well as their culture, that I found myself so motivated to study each night and looked forward to each new day of lessons.

I truly believe, like most worthwhile things, you can get out of this adventure what you put into it. That being said, there were so many “freebies” that were the many remarkable things that we encountered but that were not planned in our itinerary. There were concerts, fireworks, light shows and performances to mention a few things.
We saw a beautiful Plaza Mayor daily on our way to and from class, with something always going on there. It was truly the center of Salamancan life. We were surrounded by historical evidence of life dating back to Roman times. Imagine walking across a bridge that was once the scene of Roman battles for conquest of the city!
Salamanca was such a blend of contemporary modern life in an ancient city almost everywhere you looked. I discovered that, in general, the Salamancan people are happy, vibrant, very hard working and generous. They also love their lifestyle, and sharing their culture, history, life balance, and of course their amazing food. It was truly an honor to learn so much from them and about them.
My advice, if you are on the fence trying to decide whether or not to pursue this endeavor…Go for it!!– Liane , SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

SPC Spain Study Abroad Program: more than learning Spanish for me

What a wonderful excursion!
I didn’t know what to expect going into the SPC Spain Study Abroad Program; however, the preliminary process was clear and readily available for me. The SPC Spain Study Abroad Program really made the process easy to follow and helpful; also, the online content was user friendly. The pre-departure meetings were scheduled in two separate sessions. Each session had focus points, that I really appreciated. This was my first time traveling outside of the country, and I needed to know that I would be well prepared. No part of the preparations felt overwhelming. They covered all the bases for new and returning students.
The school in Salamanca, Spain was so welcoming to all of us. They were very accommodating and intentional in making sure we were successful in our studies. The classwork and homework were a heavy load, but doable. The accelerated classes were a bit overwhelming most days, but the professors were encouraging and ready to give more of themselves if needed. Profesora Levin and Profesora Albrecht made sure tutoring was available for all of us, and if we needed a private listening ear, they were available for that too. Not once did I ever feel I was alone or unsure of what was to happen next. I could tell by the first week, from the director to the professors of the school, they wanted us to know they really care about education and educating us. The professors also doubled as our travel guides throughout the city. This made the experience for me more comfortable.
There was a plethora of cultural beauty to embrace and admire. The cathedrals, standing tall, and wide spoke of hidden messages of wisdom that made Salamanca radiant. The Plaza Mayor cradled the city’s joint common place that was safe for all ages. The Plaza Mayor had diversity and inclusion. It was prevalent in the activities, concerts, and family attractions scheduled every night for our enjoyment. The aqueducts of Segovia proudly proclaimed its fortitude while displaying the innovation of its creators. The waves on the beaches of Biarritz, France softly proclaimed it beauty, leaving its watchers in wonderment. The SPC Spain Study Abroad Program was more than learning Spanish for me. I learned to see the world in a different lens then that of my normal everyday life. I made a “forever friend” – which was my roommate, Brittany- and I will have “forever memories” of my time in Spain because I took advantage of this program. – Raquel , SPC Spain Study Abroad Program, June 2023

SPC England Study Abroad: I’m definitely going to do another study abroad while I’m at SPC.

This trip was life changing for me. It was the farthest I have ever been away from home and from Florida. I have never been to Europe before, let alone another continent. I heard about the trip when I first applied to SPC and it caught my interest. Something about going to Europe while talking a class sounded really interesting and fun. It was also the first time I took a class that would be related to travel.

I learned a lot in the class in the lead up to the trip. The class was on Ethics, and I learned so much with the assignments and the zoom meetings. It helped me be prepared on the discussions and assignment around the trip. What I really liked was that the information from professor to student was relayed in a timely manner and had answers to questions quickly. The lead up emails had great information and prepared me in a way that I wouldn’t be if the emails weren’t sent out.

My favorite part of the trip was Birmingham. Birmingham is a city in England, and it was my absolute favorite. Why it was my favorite was because of the food, shopping, and the botanical garden. The food there was tasty and flavorful. My roommate and I went to an Italian restaurant which was a highlight of the trip. I also went to many stores that sold snacks and food. Which brings me to the shopping. I found a store called TK MAXX which was a store that sold clothes and other items. I found brands and items that would’ve been expensive if I brought from the brand itself, but there, I was able to find clothes from great brands like Nike for cheap, relative to what Nike sells their clothes at. I also enjoyed the botanical garden there. It had so many interesting plants as well as pretty plants. I also got great pictures of myself so you could say that the aesthetic there was on point for my Instagram.

Overall, I loved the trip and I’m so glad I went on it and experience England. I really enjoyed the trip and am thankful that SPC can provide these experiences through their study abroad program. I’m definitely going to do another study abroad while I’m at SPC.

SPC France: Amazing learning opportunity

This trip was my first time leaving the country, and on that note by myself. I got to experience a variety of different types of foods, architecture, languages, global perspectives, and much more. From spending time in tourist filled areas to other more quiet areas with no crowds, I got to see what France was truly like. I was shocked. I expected it to be just like New York City, but it was not. France was different because almost every store or restaurant was special; by that I meant that it was not the same five chain restaurants or retail stores like how it is here in the United States of America. Some of my favorite days were the ones spent in the small historic towns. St. Malo for example was beautiful and had such a sublime nature to it. The buildings were stunning and not to mention it was located on the water, which was this striking combination of many different blues. Although I did not like every food given to me, my eyes were opened for the sense that I had never even heard of some of these dishes before, and it was a common dish in France. We got many opportunities to enjoy the different sides of Paris. Whether it was on the boat tour, the walking tour, or when we got to explore on our own, I enjoyed every aspect of it. History has never really been my favorite subject but, it just so happens that in my history course I am enrolled in, we were learning about the treaty of Versailles, and being able to stand in the exact same place as some of the most significant places that contributed to the formation of the county I live in today really forced me to try and imagine what it must have been like at its peak, or when it was the “most modern” place. On top of the history the palace of Versailles was very beautiful and had some of the most breathtaking artwork and structures I have ever seen. All and all I really enjoyed the trip and hopefully I can go back to France and further immerse myself in the different cultures and perspectives.

Europe is an incredibly unique grouping of different modern and Western societies, where a variety of languages and values are as densely packed as the particles in a bar of lead. France is no different, having an extensive history of pushing the envelope of political and social change. Even during my short visit, numerous protests and strikes erupted concerning the political turmoil ensuing throughout the country. From waste workers to metro operators, the stunning impact of these strikes presented an amazing learning opportunity to understand the importance of everyone’s place in society.

Aside from the strife, there was a great calm. Many of the smaller cities our group visited, such as Tours, Caen, and Chartres were simply serene. Most notable to me was the simple lack of car noise. The peace brought by an environment devoid of engine roar, tire squeal, and mass-air displacement was almost imperceptible to me at the time, only revealed in reflection. This is elevated by the stunning architecture and expert civil engineering making dense urban environments enjoyable to navigate and explore.

Most prominent to me on my excursion was Le Mont-Saint-Michel, easily the most stunning work of architecture I have ever seen. A feat of both engineering and artistry, this Abbey seared itself into my mind as I traversed the monastery and surrounding island community.

SPC France: If I get the chance to study abroad again, I will definitely take it.

This wasn’t my first time traveling internationally; however, it was my first time visiting a European country. Upon arriving at the airport in France, we loaded up the bus and immediately began exploring. We explored Paris, the city of light and visited the Notre Dame Cathedral in its reconstruction phase. We saw the new Olympic Stadium being constructed, were given a couple hours to enjoy the shops and malls, and ended the evening by taking Bateaux mouche, an excursion boat down the river Seine, in which we saw the city, its architecture, and the Eifel tower. Although I was tired by all the traveling, I was amazed at the architecture, cultural diversity, and way of life in Paris. Everything was so aesthetic, like it came straight out of a picture book.

After lots of rest, we went to Versailles, Champs Elysées, and Sacré-Coeur, a beautiful Catholic Basilica that sits on the highest hill in Paris. I enjoyed visiting the Palace of Versailles and learning more about the treaty and its history. It was fascinating see the beautiful French Baroque architecture, and the elegance of the gold painted palace.
One of my favorite places was Saint Malo and its beautiful water. For lunch I had a delicious crepe with egg, tuna, and tomatoes and then enjoyed a chocolate crepe on the beach. I enjoyed being able to start off the trip in the city, but also being able to visit the villages and beaches. The view throughout the country was beautiful and the French people were nice and hospitable.
I enjoyed visiting the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation, a memorial for the 200,000 people who were sent to the Nazi concentration camps. I was able to learn a lot about world war II and its impact on all the countries involved. We visited the D-day Landing beaches and I was so intrigued by the area in which many people lost their lives. You always learn about this stuff in history class, but it was interesting to see it in real life and see some of the remains many years later.
Starting off the trip viewing the Eifel tower, we ended it, attempting to see it sparkling at night. This was an amazing opportunity I was able to participate in, and if I get the chance to study abroad again, I will definitely take it. France was beautiful, diverse, and rich in culture.

My experience on the France study abroad trip is something that I will never forget. I learened so much from just one week of travel. This trip offered numerous opportunities to explore a different culture, language, and encounter a different way of life.

There were many things I will never forget, like the Louvre, Normandy Beach, and of course the iconic Eiffel Tower. But the thing I enjoyed the most was the free time. We were able to break off into small groups or pairs to get lunch and shop. I was able to try a lot of new foods like sweet and savory crepes, and we had fresh, authentic fish and chips on Normandy Beach.

Our tour guide was also amazing and very knowledgeable. He always told stories that included the French culture and maybe a different perspective that you wouldn’t think of. The Professors and chaperones on the trip also made it great. They were always making sure that everyone was safe and that we had everything we needed.

If you have an opportunity to go on a study abroad with SPC, I would say do not  hesitate! You will have unforgettable experiences and make lifelong friends.

Going on the study abroad France trip has changed my life and my perspective on how I view Europe. EF did a great job preparing us for our trip, as all of the suggested items I packed were necessary. Since we would be moving from the hotel to the bus to a new hotel each day I took the guide’s advice and packed light, making sure to have my clothes and other items organized and ready to grab each day to get breakfast and get on the bus in time. This tour was very educational; not only did we learn about the history of Paris, but our tour guide went in-depth into the history of each city we visited, such as what the French went through during World War II. Most people who visit France stay in Paris but miss out on so much as other cities like Mon Salo, Chartres, and Mont Saint Michel, which are some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. They are all so rich in history and have a such archaic architecture that I would have liked to stay in each town for an entire week to explore.

The cultural interactions between American tourists and the French were very interesting. While in Paris, it seemed like the Parisians did not like us tourists and often were frustrated when we did not follow their customs, however, they spoke English very well, which made it easier to order food with my very limited French. Once we left the city, fewer people spoke English but were a lot more patient and respectful towards us students who tried to order with simple French words and lots of gesturing, and were much more inviting into their establishments and their town.

The food would be the only thing that could compete with the architecture. EF planned amazing dinners in restaurants with authentic French foods. They were also very accommodating with foods that I can eat since I am vegetarian. I got to try so many amazing delicacies provided by EF and when we went to have lunch on our own, crepes, seafood, pastas, ratatouille, omelets, soups, and so much more.

Our tour guide was amazing as well! He taught us new French words and phrases every day and played French music on our bus rides. He shared with us some of his favorite French snacks and encouraged us to try classic French dishes and explore every place we visited. He also guided us safely throughout the cities as we were there during a strike. I now have a more realistic view of France and would happily visit again, or take another tour with EF!

SPC France Study Abroad: Forever be memorable

This was my first study abroad trip with EF and going to France has given me the opportunity to learn about the people I meet, the historical significance of my surroundings, cultural differences, and the foreign language. EF has really shown that their tours prioritize Education First, to start off with we met our wonderful tour guide who welcomed us with open arms. He first introduces his background that led him to be a part of EF and how much he loved it ever since he started giving tours to students. Despite the fact that we were on an ongoing mission to arrive at our destination from a moving vehicle to walking, we never stopped learning and asking questions about the place including the architecture that is around us. I did my own research on the locations we were going to before I went on the trip but there was much information that I discovered from our tour guide that was not on the itinerary. For example, the Centre Pompidou and the artwork on the buildings with the symbolic exterior, while it holds famous collections from the 20th and 21st centuries.

As a little kid, I have never imagined myself to be far from my parents, especially out of the country, but I did envision myself in a castle and it was a dream come true on this trip! We went into the Palace of Versailles and Château de Clemenceau, not only was I able to see how the royals lived, as well as their historical significance in the First and Second World Wars. In addition, we were introduced to a tour guide for the Palace of Versailles who explained to us about the historical paintings and figures in each room. He made sure we were engaged in the conversation and spent time answering any questions we may have at the end. Although we only spent a day with him, he contributed a lot to tell us about the importance of keeping an open mind and continuing to be curious about everything you come across.

I believe a trip is not memorable without all the emotions that come with it, whether that be filled with joy, sorrow, or a new word I learned from our tour guide: sublime meaning admiration and awe by what we observe. I was overjoyed on the way to France, also being there to experience and appreciate all the scenery, handmade products, and food that were entirely different from the U.S. which made it interesting and fascinating every time I spotted something unique. In Mémorial de Caen, I felt sorrow after touring the area where the Battle of Normandy occurred and watching a film that invested in all the stages of the battle up to the liberation of Le Havre showcasing the damages it caused to the people and where they grew up being blown into fragments. The word sublime was used when we were trying to find a word that meant astonished or admiration by the view that the person was unable to speak because it deeply moved you.  I can apply these three words to the joy of going on another EF tour, the sorrow of leaving France and our tour guide, and finally the sublime that will forever be memorable to me. – Jessica, SPC France High School Study Abroad Program, March 2023

Going on this SPC study abroad trip was a wonderful experience. The layout of the trip itself never missed a beat. The itinerary was just busy enough to keep everyone happy while also allowing for free time periodically where each of us could do our own thing. My favorite destination on the trip was Mont Saint-Michel (pictured below). On this island we were able to enjoy incredible views of the coast and work our way through the various gift shops and restaurants at our own pace. I definitely bought the most souvenirs at this location. Additionally, the food options were pretty good. Each night we would have dinner with the whole group, and I was frequently introduced to many new French foods. To my surprise, I never encountered a place that only took cash. France was very credit card friendly, and I actually had to go out of my way to spend my leftover euros at the end of the trip. Our tour guide kept the trip exciting, and it was great that experts on certain locations were also brought in to tour us. The hotels weren’t luxury, but they were more than acceptable for the price of the trip, and I never had trouble sleeping. Wake up calls weren’t too early either. I found that I had a perfect amount of time to leisurely make my way to bed and still get enough sleep to be fueled for the next day. Switching hotels almost every day was also not bad. Our rooms were given to us quickly when we arrived at each hotel, and we were given detailed instructions regarding the following morning. I was surprised by the amount of freedom given to us at certain points. There were many instances where there was no supervision, but rather trust that we would all be back at the meeting spot at a certain time. I really appreciated this system because it let us experience the French culture as authentically as possible. Ultimately, what I enjoyed most was the variety of locations and activities I was able to experience on this trip. I was surprised to find out that I actually preferred the cities we visited outside of Paris, and I never would have visited those had I not gone on this SPC sponsored trip.

SPC England Study Abroad: My own personal heaven

This trip to England for the Applied ethics class has been more than I could hope for. I knew I loved my Applied Ethics class because everyone seemed so nice within it, and Dave Monroe is such an awesome Professor for us. Once we and the British Literature class all warmed up to each other that first night at Liverpool, I became sure that we found a great group of people. It’s a beautiful thing to get together with people who are excited about the same things you are, about exploring and learning about England.

England was beautiful. Everyone says that England has such a rich history compared to America and they are not lying. England’s history is deep. We would always listen to some fun history facts about England from our awesome tour guide Robin. I truly understand the pride that Brits have about living there.

This photo is of Shakespeare’s church where he is buried. What a profoundly beautiful place to rest. We went inside this church to see beautiful stained-glass windows and religious art. The whole of Stratford, where Shakespeare lived and died, was quaint and comforting. I find that it’s hard to fully articulate why this town was comforting. The town seemed to attract many people walking their dogs so maybe it’s that. But it could also be how sweet and polite the museum guides were and the fish and chip shop workers were. But It’s most definitely their accents. So nice to listen to.

Me and a couple of the girls from the British literature class went to get some British tea and scones. We truly fulfilled our British fantasy then. It was perfect how we were able to go off and explore on our own after the tour of the cities concluded.

There’s so much more to indulge on from this trip, but I will just say that I encourage those who want to experience a trip like this to sign up for a study abroad program! There’s so much to choose from. This is your sign. “We are such stuff as dreams are made on” – William Shakespeare
 – Lyndsey, SPC England Study Abroad Program, March 2023

While only 37% of Americans have passports, I firmly believe that everyone should make a point to visit outside of their home country at least once. Travel has extraordinary – and underdiscussed – benefits on a person. It notoriously increases creativity, expands our mental horizons, and reintroduces us to ourselves in a way that being at home simply never can. The benefits of traveling abroad for academic enrichment, in particular, cannot be overstated.

Since I was a young child, I’ve been fascinated by England. The cultural legacy of magnificent architecture, cobblestone sidewalks, and double decker buses set up shop in my mind early, then never left. It wasn’t until I received the email about SPC’s U.K. Study Abroad trip that I ever realized that, soon enough, I would be able to replace those fantasies with memories.

There is something so uniquely romantic about England. Our flight descended into a frosted Manchester, where I could have sworn distant hills were powdered sugar donuts. As anyone on the trip can attest, the English cold was at times bone-chilling, but it somehow made the cozy moments inside with a hot coffee that much more lovely. I would happily take frozen fingertips in exchange of walking alongside the River Mersey through the water-chilled breath of Liverpool again, where we explored the area surrounding the Royal Albert Dock, took refuge in the Tate Liverpool Museum, and retraced the Beatles’ steps everywhere from Strawberry Fields to the Philharmonic Dining Rooms.

From Liverpool, we trekked to Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon, where we visited Shakespeare’s home. The level of overwhelm in walking through such thick history is indescribable – to see the bedroom, dining room, and neighborhood of the Western world’s greatest poet and storyteller is so remarkable it is nearly beyond belief that swans swim on the Avon without shock. The Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was both baptized and buried, was one of the most jaw-dropping sights of the entire trip, where worshippers still attend today under vaulted ceilings that look higher than the sky. Oxford was arguably, for me, the highlight of the trip: between universities, bookstores, and hole-in-the-wall eateries, I was in my own personal heaven – so much so that I didn’t even mind the cold for a while! – Mehwish, SPC England Study Abroad Program, March 2023
