St Petersburg College chose Regina Calcaterra’s Etched in Sand as the feature for 2015’s One Book/One College activities. On January 28, SPC’s Clearwater Campus was privileged to host the author and provide an opportunity for readers to engage with her and her story directly. Over 50 students and faculty attended the event, taking advantage of this unique chance to meet the woman behind the words.  Regina Calcaterra’s Etched in Sand is courageous, fascinating, and unforgettable; all SPC libraries have a copy, so be sure to read it when you get a chance!

One Book/One College unites students, faculty, and staff, as they share their experiences reading and discussing the chosen book and engage in related activities, which can range from quad events to health fairs to pet adopt-a-thons and author visits.

Keep on the look-out for 2016’s One Book/One College events and other news on the SPC Events Calendar.

Peace and Diversity in Israel by Corey Cunningham

Israel Study Abroad student Corey Cunningham shared his thoughts with us on his first experiences in Israel:

Driving through Israel for the first time and not seeing any soldiers out on the streets or any type of ruckus going on really shows me how peaceful this country is.

Going to their market and seeing the diversity really shocked me; it was as if I was in New York. Going to the Roman theater gave me insight on how many civilizations ruled over Israel, which gives it the diversity it has now.

The construction of buildings in Israel uses a unique rock that I’ve never seen that is so interesting and words can’t do justice to. I am so excited to continue on the rest of this trip.
