International Programs Student Focus Group Speaks Up

International Programs Director Ramona Kirsch with face-to-face session attendees
International Programs Director Ramona Kirsch with face-to-face session attendees

Many thanks to the students who joined our inaugural International Programs Student Focus Group! Study Abroad and International students gave valuable input on the future shape of international programming at SPC. Dedicated participants even joined via phone conference to make sure their voices were heard!

Director Ramona Kirsch introduced attendees to new initiatives and opportunities like the Global Citizen Pathway and Global Partners at SPC. We were excited to hear student opinions about how best to reach them regarding upcoming events, and got ideas for new forms of programming. Food, films, and guest speakers were high on the list. MyCourses communication is a new and critical part of student life at SPC, and featured heavily in the conversation as well. The International Programs department learned a lot and appreciates all the student insight.

Look out for future student focus group events – we want to hear from YOU!

Mid-Autumn Festival Wows SPC Students

On September 27, 2015, a group of students and an advisor from the Clearwater campus had the opportunity to visit University of South Florida’s Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. The students enjoyed learning about Chinese culture through regional dance and musical performances.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated by the Chinese on the 15th day of the eighth month on the lunar calendar. The program was open for everyone to come and experience the colorful cultural performances. Students also had the opportunity to interact with different clubs that presented at the festival, such as USF Chinese Students and Scholars Association, and co-sponsors including the Chinese Culture and Language Club and the USF Confucius Institute. Each student in attendance received a beautiful and tasty mooncake.MAF moon pie

SPC’s students who attended had a great time:

“The Mooncakes look delicious!” – Tyler Page

“I really liked the festival and getting the chance to learn about the Chinese culture.” – Skyy Everhart

“The dancers were very cultural, I wonder how much time they spent practicing?” – Miranda Page

Be sure to join the celebration next year!
