Costa Rica: Business in Latin America

We are excited to announce that there will be a Costa Rica Business program going this year. The program is geared to emphasize the study of intercultural differences between the United States and Costa Rica as a valid representation of Latin American councrb-2tries.

Students will get firsthand experience with doing business in Latin American countries.  In addition to regular classes on campus, students will travel to Costa Rica where they will visit and study at “Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion the Empresas” (Central American Institute of Business Administration), also known as INCAE, one of the top business schools in Latin America. The country’s Chambers of Commerce and multinational companies will be used as field-based settings to accomplish the learning objectives for the class.

  • Travel and course dates are July 24- August 4, 2017.
  • Program application deadline is February 20, 2017.

International Education Week: Thursday Nov. 17

Thursday, Nov. 17 marks the final day of events for International Education Week here at SPC.

  • Both the SP/Gibbs Campus and the Seminole Campus will be holding an International Food Festival! There will be international food, and the theme is Ethics in Action:  Diversity through the Arts. The events will take place from 11:30am-2:00pm. The festival at Gibbs will take place in the Quad, and the festival at Seminole will take place in the UP Lobby.
  • The Clearwater Campus will hold its Sights, Sounds & Tastes of China in ES 104 from 12:00pm-2:00pm. This event will include music, traditional Chinese snacks and trivia games where you can win prizes for your knowledge. So stop by, grab a snack, and learn more about China’s wonderful culture!
  • Stop by an International Coffee Lounge and Learn at either the Health Education Center or Downtown Campus.  Grab some coffee and learn some more about cultures from around the world. This event will take place on Health Education Center from 11:30am-2:00pm in the HEC Lobby and at the Downtown Campus from 8:30am-12:00pm in the 1st Floor Lobby.
  • At the Tarpon Springs campus the SBS Study Abroad Club will be holding a Silent Auction Fundraiser in BB 210. The event will take place from 9:00am-4:00pm. Available items that are part of the auction include coupons/vouchers, baskets, gift cards, and specialty items from places including: Starbucks, The Melting Pot, LA Fitness, Dillards, Macy’s and more! Please stop by and show your support.

International Education Week: Wednesday Nov 16th

Tomorrow marks the third day of International Week, and do we have two great events in store for you!

  • The first being at SPC Tarpon Springs Campus, who will be welcoming Olympic Medalist Marianne Kriel.  Marianne was born in Bellville, South Africa and achieved international recognition as a professional swimmer. She will be speaking about the struggles and successes of her career and her international accomplishments. The event will take place at Tarpon Springs Campus from 12:00pm-1:30pm in FA 132. We will be serving international desserts.
  • The second event is a Titan Talk at the Allstate Center. Stop by to listen to one of our previous study abroad students talk about her experiences abroad, and learn about the benefits that come along with the experience. This event will take place from 5:15pm-5:45pm in AC 103.

Tuesday, November 15 is the second day of International Education week  at SPC and we are celebrating with three different events on three different campuses.

  • The Vet Tech campus will hold another International Coffee Lounge and Learn in their Lobby from 12:30 -2:00pm. Stop by for coffee and learn about different cultures around the world.
  • The SP/Gibbs Campus will also be hosting an International Coffee and Lounge event with a presentation from PKT. This event will take place from 11:00am-2:pm in SS Lobby.
  • The Midtown Campus will be hosting their International Snack and Learn from 9:00-11:00am on the 1st floor Lobby.

In addition to these events, we would like to remind you of the following:

International Education Week: Monday Nov 14th

This week St. Petersburg College will be celebrating International Education Week!

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

Join us as we celebrate with international themed events taking place college-wide!

  • Join us at the Clerwater campus library on Monday for English Conversation Hour from 2:30pm-3:30pm. This is intended to help English as a second language learners practice their English conversation skills. This is something that we do not only during IEW, but every Monday during the school year. Participation in this event counts as extra-curricular activity for the Global Citizen Pathway. To learn more about GPS click here.
  • Join us at the Vet Tech campus for an International Coffee Lounge and Learn event in the Lobby from 11:30-12:30.

You must be a St. Petersburg College student, faculty, or staff to vote. There is a limit of one (1) vote per person, per category. The potential winners will be notified on Friday, November 18, 2016.

SPC Welcomes 120 New U.S. Citizens

On Friday September 16th in the Fine Arts Auditorium on SPC’s Clearwater Campus, over 120 new American citizens were welcomed.  After the Oath of Allegiance was administered, there was an information session on the process of becoming a citizen of the United States.

SPC’s Study Abroad Club Hosts a Silent Auction Fundraiser

The Study Abroad Club invites you to their Silent Auction fundraiser. All donations will support SPC’s England Psychology Study Abroad program. The event takes place on November 17th, 2016 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs campus in BB210. The event is open to SPC students, faculty, and staff.
