Odense Dyrehospital by Tricia Gorham
We have moved onto the city of Odense which is actually pronounced OOdlesen for some reason. We are having some trouble understanding the Danish terms. Casey is doing quite well with those but the rest of us certainly could use some work. We spent today and the next two days working in a very large, busy animal hospital here just a 10 minute walk from Han Christian Andersons home. Today was eventful in that we had an obstruction surgery on a 120 lb Bernese Mountain dog which turned out to be a potato. Other cases included an ACL repair, 2 dentals with extractions as well as a possible Meningitis case. We had a case in which a needle biopsy was taken of the spleen and liver to diagnosis cancer and I had a great talk with Peter the veterinarian about the cytology of the sample. Peter also spent time in an exchange program working with Michigan State University. We are learning so much about the laws in Denmark regarding animals, some of which are quite strict compared to our own, we have also started a list comparing the practices in the states to those here. This list has grown to include many other items about general life which in many ways is very different from our own. For those that know this little group, traveling has been interesting….food how should I say this…. is different, but we are very fortunate to have a great Danish student guiding us in each place. I’m not sure how we would have fared without them. We are here until Friday and then off to the school in Kolding.

Day #1 – Denmark by Tricia Gorham
Good morning from semi-sunny Denmark…. the students and I arrived here about midnight after much delays and an unexpected overnight stay in Canada and were met by Sabrina our Copenhagen student. After some much needed rest, today we will get to spend some free time in Copenhagen before getting down to work in the morning. We all look forward to starting our adventure!
