Memories of Italy: we made homemade PIZZA in Florence!! by Haile Noto

SAM_0866One of the cultural activities we participated in while in Florence was a cooking lesson. We made pizza, homemade pizza, out of flour, water, made into dough and then “decorated” our pizza, we had a chef with us, he was really cool too. We were in a group of 24, some from Ohio, and some from Illinois. It was really good experience surprisingly, because anyone who knows me, knows that I hate cooking, and I completely enjoyed this experience! I took a lot of pictures just to prove to my friends and family that I made pizza and gelato in Italy. 🙂 Having this experience in Florence, was definitely my favorite part of the Florence trip, and we earned a certificate of proficiency, which is now framed in my room. 🙂

Florence & Siena by Haile Noto

After a few days in Roma, we ventured onto a speed train with our tour guide Jill and Professor Wolter, into Florence. Put simply, this city is beautiful. Our first night here, we ate the best pizza from Gusta Pizza, it was definitely delicious, well, all the food has been.

The next day on the public bus to Siena, in which the small city was “magnifico”, I say that, because we stopped with our Siena Tour Guide, Marco, to get pastries at “il Magnifico”… I think everyone bought something to bring home. The pastries are delicious!!

We toured the streets and ancient river aqueducts and talked a lot about horse racing and the winnings of the Goose. We ate lunch outside of the Siena square and raced back to our bus stop that left at 5:15pm. We arrived back in Florence and all I wanted to do was sleep, so I did. Everyone else went back out and shopped and got some type of dinner.

That brings me to, tonight, we’re taking a cooking class here in Florence, making some type of dinner and then gelato. 🙂

Ciao!

First [Very Long] Day in Rome by Haile Noto

Today, Sidney, Brittany, Andrew, Keagan and I [Haile], all met at the airport around 6AM in Tampa to arrive in New York at around 10AM. After a long flight, I met with Dan in Amsterdam and boarded our flight to Rome. In Rome, the airport was so tiny, yet so confusing!

We took a bus to the Hotel, and took a quick orientation around Rome shortly after we dropped our bags off. We saw were the Pope resides, ate lunch (and I had Gelato YUMMY!), I also purchased a few items curbside via walking around in town. So far, we’ve had blast, eating, walking, learning and getting to know each other. I can’t wait to see what else this trip has in store.

Ciao! We’ll write soon!
