Come one, come all – Quad Event

On September 2, 2015 the SPC Clearwater Campus welcomed back students with a circus to remember.  The Clearwater Campus SGA kick-started the new school year as they presented Cirque Du Clearwater, a circus-themed quad event. 2This whimsical event had the afternoon filled with frolic and games as students took the opportunity to showcase their club, eat a delicious lunch, and enjoy the hot Florida sun.

The campus was oozing with student involvement. The event had people engaged in different activities, like bean bag toss and stilt walkers. Students enjoyed themselves with music, food and freebies. Along with that, different organizations and clubs around campus were able to present themselves. Along with this quad event was the engagement of SPC Clearwater Campus International Club.

1The International Club recruited 53 students to join its organization. Many of these students showed great interest in learning about different cultures, meeting new people, and sharing their own heritages. With the International Club growing and its members getting more involved, the International Club has a lot in store this upcoming school year.

The event was a huge success. It showed the students what student life in St. Petersburg College really is about: even though college might be very intimidating, there will always be a time to relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy SPC like it’s a circus!

Getting to Know SPC: New International Student Orientation at Clearwater

Every semester, International Programs welcomes new international students to start their journey at SPC. On Thursday, August 13, Clearwater campus had its international student orientation for the Fall term at which 12 students from 10 countries received information that will be vital to their success at SPC.

3Angela Cole, the International Student Representative of the campus, discussed the FACTS (Full time, Authorized work, Carry documents, Transition, Stay in touch) each student must know in order to ensure their academic success and to keep their immigration status. The students also learned how to register for classes, how to purchase health insurance, and how to join on-campus clubs and organizations. Sane Haidara, a current international student at SPC, participated in the orientation as a guest speaker emphasizing the important of insurance for international students.4

Motivated by games and prizes, the students tested their knowledge about maintaining a good status as an international student. After lunch, International Programs staff took the students on a campus tour, familiarizing them with what classes and facilities each building offers.  At the end of the day-long orientation, our new international students felt comfortable and confident about the upcoming semester. We wish them the best of luck!
