Book of Awesome and Long Hall of Incredible!! by Emma Herzhauser

Day 2 of Adventures in Ireland! Today we have all finally arrived, Hooray! But the last three of our fellow students didn’t get here until later so to pass the time the other seven of us decided to get some breakfast and explore a little. When we were deciding where to go for breakfast, we thought we would use our 10% discount so we all went some got crepes and pastries, others got some coffee, and 3 got the full Irish breakfasts. Only problem was when we all were seated and waiting our already ordered food, we realized we did not use our discount. It was funny and we just all made sure we are going to use the discount tomorrow. After breakfast we had some extra time before the meet up for Trinity College so we did some more exploring. While on our adventure we found a beautiful park with a pond, and birds, and a bridge, it was amazing. We wondered around for a little bit but didn’t have enough time to actually explore and see the entire park unfortunately. We arrived back at the hotel with just enough time to welcome our fellow students and then we were on our way to Trinity College and the Book of Kells.

The tour of Trinity College was Astounding; I could never imagine what it would be like to actually attend a school as beautiful or as historic as Trinity College. When we arrived in Ireland and drove past the college at first I didn’t believe that it was an actual school for people to go and learn something, but while on the tour I became more realistic to me that it was a school and that kids go there to be educated and excel it was just mind boggling. After the tour of Trinity College we went into see the book of Kells and see the long room. For me, being a book nerd that I am, this was one of the coolest moments of my life so far. The book of Kells was incredible, not only was it actually legible, you know if I could read Latin, but you could see what was written. Also in the book of Kells exhibit it had the Long Room, I was really nerding out then, I have never seen a more beautiful library in all of my life, it was…I have no words. I was so blown away by the enormity of the library and books binding were gorgeous I couldn’t imagine every owning a book so beautiful. That was a remarkable experience.

After my nerding-fest we decided to go get some lunch at a local pub we got some shepherds pie, and some salads, and soups, and really delicious foods. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub it was just a fun place to be after classes or after work. I have really enjoyed my time in Ireland I cannot wait to see what Derry and Belfast is like and what fun I can dig up there.
